Japan's NTT Docomo suffered a nationwide outage of its 5G standalone service — voice calls, data and SMS — starting around 11:18 a.m. local time on November 5, telling users to switch to 4G and restart their phones. The carrier says no unauthorized access has been found in connection with the outage, but separately confirmed that unauthorized access to its online shop and My docomo service leaked some customer information, including names, addresses, birth dates and phone numbers. It matters because a nationwide outage at Japan's largest carrier, combined with a customer-data leak, hits both service reliability and trust at once.
