Microsoft reportedly drops plan to expand Nscale compute lease, a fresh setback ahead of its IPO
The Financial Times reports that Microsoft has dropped an option to more than double its existing lease of computing capacity at an Nscale data-center campus in Texas, a deal potentially worth tens of billions of dollars. Nscale, the UK's highest-valued AI startup, is seeking a $35 billion valuation in an IPO this year and must now find new customers for the campus or risk losing billions in future revenue. The setback comes as investors grow wary of the debt behind the AI data-center buildout, making Nscale a bellwether for the neocloud financing model.
