Cyberattacks Target Refrigeration Systems Across Europe, Blood Banks Hit
Hackers have targeted refrigeration systems across Europe, including cold-storage facilities holding blood products at three sites run for France's national blood service, the French Blood Establishment (EFS), raising temperature and defrost thresholds to very high levels. EFS said its monitoring systems responded quickly and no blood products or samples were lost, with affected stock moved to other facilities. The attacks are part of a wider wave that also hit hundreds of supermarkets in France, Belgium, Sweden and Finland, causing food spoilage losses possibly worth millions of euros — a reminder that cyberattacks on ordinary operational technology can directly threaten public health and food supply.
