French Bank Hit by Cyberattack
French bank Crédit Mutuel Arkéa said on November 4 it suffered a cyberattack in which hackers broke into the bank's own accounts, made fraudulent transfers to other banks, and converted the stolen money into cryptocurrency. No client funds were affected, and the bank says it has intercepted part of the money, though the total is still being assessed — French media report it may exceed €100 million. It matters because a roughly €100 million theft from a bank's own accounts, laundered through crypto exchanges, is a large-scale, organized financial cybercrime, and the Paris prosecutor's office has opened a formal investigation.
