Anthropic's models improving nearly twice as fast with help from AI, study finds
A METR study found Anthropic's model capabilities have been improving 1.9 times faster since October 2025, with AI itself accounting for perhaps 80% of that acceleration. The 11-week assessment, drawing on confidential research and data from unreleased models, found no convincing evidence of major bottlenecks that could slow progress over the next year. It matters because it is among the clearest evidence yet that AI is accelerating its own development, raising the prospect of recursive self-improvement outpacing safety assessment.
