Google's Agent Compute Engine gives every Gemini agent its own hardware-isolated micro virtual machine
Google announced Agent Compute Engine, a runtime that gives every AI agent its own microVM secured by Google's Titanium chip; the service already powers Gemini and opens for preview in the coming months. Google claims ten times as many agents per server — 200,000 agents suspended and resumed in under 500 milliseconds — plus token tracking, model routing and third-party identity support extending to Cloud Run and GKE. Why it matters: VMs are one of the biggest cost factors in agentic systems, so Google is turning its internal agent infrastructure (and the open-sourced Agent Substrate Kubernetes runtime) into a first-class cloud primitive.
