DeepSeek rakes in 150 billion in half a year!
Bloomberg first reported, and Reuters has now confirmed, that DeepSeek is wrapping up a funding round of about 100 billion yuan (roughly $15 billion), with battery maker CATL and Tencent among the biggest backers. The round doubles DeepSeek's original 50-billion-yuan target and is expected to close in the coming days; Reuters also notes the company hired CITIC Securities to prepare for a potential STAR Market IPO. It would rank among the largest AI funding rounds ever — and the biggest for a Chinese lab — underscoring how intensely capital, including state-backed money, is flowing into the US-China AI race.
