Google researchers demand freedom to tell the world what they know about AI

Google DeepMind staff are pressing executives to drop non-disparagement clauses, with reporting describing lifetime bans on criticising the company in some London contracts even after leaving. Google says it does not enforce the clause for former staff and has removed the post-employment part from new hires contracts, but current staff want it removed from existing contracts too. It matters because staff say public warnings about AI risks often depend on insiders being free to speak, and a lifetime restriction can chill that speech even if it might not be enforceable.
