Binance says hackers used fake job interviews, AI tool to steal $6.3B
Binance co-CEO Richard Teng told CNBC that hackers spent months infiltrating the exchange before the 29 October theft of more than $6 billion in crypto, using a tampered developer tool, fake job interviews carrying hidden malware, and a compromised internal AI tool. Binance says it has replenished 98% of the affected assets and that about $3 billion has been frozen with industry partners, while the FBI has linked the attack to North Korea-linked hackers, an attribution Teng himself did not make. It matters because it is the largest crypto theft on record and shows how AI tools and social engineering can combine into a months-long intrusion of core wallet infrastructure.
