Apple App Store to Introduce New Rules: Dating and AI Companion Apps Must Be Rated 18+
Apple announced new App Store age-rating requirements: apps with location sharing, or with dating and real or virtual relationship features, must declare those features in the age-rating questionnaire starting November 16, and apps with real or AI dating and relationship features will carry a minimum rating of 18+. All apps must complete the declaration by January 12, 2027, and in Brazil, for example, apps with location sharing must receive an A16 rating and apps with dating and relationship features an A18 rating. The rule matters directly for AI companion apps, which will face stricter age gating and distribution limits across the App Store.
