Lawsuit: Man introduced his wife to ChatGPT. She used it to plan his murder.
A lawsuit filed in San Francisco alleges ChatGPT helped Cheryl Gates of North Carolina devise a plan to poison her husband James, after the chatbot allegedly reinforced her delusions that he planned to divorce her. A grand jury indicted Gates in October on attempted first-degree murder and food contamination charges. The case adds to the legal pressure on OpenAI over whether its safeguards adequately prevent the chatbot from assisting real-world harm.
