Nvidia Eyes Old Telecom Exchanges, Plans 1-Gigawatt AI Inference Network

Nvidia has submitted a written proposal to US broadband operator Brightspeed to convert some of its old telecom exchange buildings into small AI data centers, forming an inference network that could cover up to 20 US states. People familiar with the matter say Nvidia estimates the sites have about 1 gigawatt of available power in total. It matters because it shows inference demand pushing AI compute into existing telecom infrastructure, turning idle exchange buildings into distributed capacity.
