Microsoft Researcher John Langford Exits. AI Frontiers Group Declared Finished
John Langford, a partner research manager at Microsoft Research New York, has left Microsoft and declared the roughly 50-person AI Frontiers group over, after it was moved from Microsoft Research into Microsoft AI in early September. The group built AutoGen, a framework for coordinating agents, and Fara, an agent that operates a computer. Langford said Microsoft AI's leadership prioritises scaling over research and that he could not get innovations used — a public critique of the scaling-first direction at one of the industry's biggest AI labs, from the creator of a widely used agent framework.
