Sources: Japan’s JIC Plans to Sell JSR to Mitsui Chemicals

Two people familiar with the matter said Japan’s government-backed Japan Investment Corporation plans to sell semiconductor materials maker JSR to Mitsui Chemicals for more than 1.3 trillion yen (about $8.2 billion), with a decision possible as early as this month. It would be one of the largest deals in Japan’s chemical industry. The deal matters because JSR is a key semiconductor materials supplier, so a change of ownership could reshape supply in a strategically sensitive part of the chip supply chain.
