Google will cut off search access for students at schools that reject AI
Google will require K-12 schools to opt in to AI before students can use its search engine, because search is now integrated with AI tools such as Gemini. Schools can switch each tool on or off individually, but opting out of AI altogether also removes search access. The move matters because Google Classroom is used by 150 million students and teachers worldwide, and critics including former FTC chair Lina Khan call it using a search monopoly to coerce schools into adopting AI.
