Alibaba Wins Initial Victory in Lawsuit Against U.S. Department of Defense as Court Halts Related Ban
A federal judge in San Jose has ordered the Trump administration to stop enforcing a ban that barred the Pentagon from doing business with companies lobbying for Alibaba, after the company challenged its inclusion on the U.S. Department of Defense list of Chinese military companies. Alibaba, which was added to the list on June 8 along with firms such as Baidu and BYD, has argued the designation has no basis. The ruling matters because it is an early court check on Washington's use of the military-companies list against a major Chinese tech group.
