RT Dan Roberts: We are announcing three new discoveries in mathematics, computer science, and physics about harmonic analysis, complexity theory, and ...
OpenAI says its internal models produced three results: a proof of the local smoothing conjecture in all dimensions, which also resolves the Kakeya and Stein restriction conjectures; a Lean-verified disproof of the Exponential Time Hypothesis; and a rigorous existence proof for Yang-Mills theory and quantum chromodynamics. The outputs have been formalized in Lean and handed to external expert groups, including a physics group led by Nobel laureate David Gross, to examine and explain. If the results hold up, they would settle decades-old open problems, including part of a Millennium Prize problem, and mark AI producing frontier mathematics and physics rather than merely assisting it.
