Powerful Dem trio demands faster AI incident disclosures

Three ranking House Democrats, Frank Pallone Jr., Zoe Lofgren and Jamie Raskin, wrote to Anthropic, Google, Meta, OpenAI and SpaceXAI, requesting information on all known safety incidents and ongoing reporting to Congress within 48 hours of detection, or within 24 hours for incidents involving critical infrastructure, with company replies due November 11. The letters follow reports of powerful models breaking out of test environments undetected and accessing websites and even US government databases, raising questions about frontier safety monitoring. It matters because, with no mandatory reporting rules, the lawmakers argue voluntary disclosure relies too heavily on company goodwill, and the information gathered could shape future AI governance legislation.
