Turkey launches antitrust probe into Google AI search features
The Turkish Competition Authority announced on November 2 an antitrust investigation into Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, examining whether they harm news publishers and other content creators, including through lost website traffic and unfair content-use terms. The authority also demanded that Google ensure its news content terms are non-discriminatory, reflect the economic value of the content, and let publishers choose whether to license content to AI services without affecting their display or indexing elsewhere on Google. The case matters because it is one of the first regulatory challenges to how AI search summaries use publisher work, an issue other regulators are watching.
