Sony Network Communications reports database breach affecting about 2.58 million users
Sony Network Communications said the member database of its Japanese internet service So-net was accessed without authorization, with personal information of 2,585,481 current and former users stolen, including about 2.14 million So-net members and 443,495 NTT Docomo plala (S course) users. The leaked data includes names, phone numbers, email addresses, dates of birth and login IDs, plus valid passwords for 54,401 additional or old email addresses and bank account details for 16 users. The intrusion occurred on October 19 but was only discovered on October 23, and the combination of personal data with working passwords creates a direct account-takeover risk.
