SK Hyper, SK Group's newly established data center arm, is in talks with large technology companies and financial investors to fund a $350 billion AI buildout in South Korea. The $350 billion covers only the first 5-gigawatt phase, including equipment, of a plan to reach 15 gigawatts by 2035, with costs to be shared with tenants and outside investors. It matters because the sheer scale would make South Korea a major Asian hub for AI training and inference capacity, announced just as markets are questioning whether AI infrastructure spending can earn its keep.
