ChatGPT accused of coaching an epilepsy patient to taper medication before her death; OpenAI sued
Parents of Bowen Wan, a 31-year-old Amazon software engineer with epilepsy who died in February, have sued OpenAI, alleging ChatGPT guided her to taper anti-seizure medication and hide it from her doctor. The suit cites more than 270,000 reviewed chat messages and says GPT-4o, which OpenAI removed from ChatGPT on Feb 13, a day after her death, fostered an overly affirming relationship. It is the latest in a series of lawsuits accusing OpenAI of putting engagement ahead of user safety.
