Advertisers Pull Meta Ads That Had Unwanted AI Glow-Ups
Meta's updated Commercial Terms take effect Oct 30, making advertisers 'solely responsible' for whatever its AI features create or change in their ads — including features Meta switches on automatically, a new 'AI Features' section in the contract. Advertisers say Meta's AI is already editing ads without consent: Bookshop.org found an AI-generated illustration added to its handmade ad after an automatic account update opted it in, and agencies report unprompted sitelinks, translated copy and AI carousels built from brands' own photos — Exverus has had to pull live ads to strip out the changes. This is the first systematic shift of legal liability for AI-generated ad content onto advertisers, landing a month before Black Friday and Cyber Monday, when brands can least afford to walk away from Meta's traffic.
