Google plans to support shared AI training opt-out via robots.txt
Google has announced plans to support a shared AI training control in robots.txt, based on work from the IETF AIPREF working group. Website owners would use a single policy token to express training preferences across participating AI providers, and Google says it would treat an opt-out through that token as disallowing Google-Extended unless Google-Extended is explicitly specified. It matters because it could replace a patchwork of company-specific opt-outs with one cross-industry signal, with support aimed for 2027 alongside other providers.
