Agent Skills Becomes Community-Governed: Anthropic Donates the Standard
Anthropic has donated its Agent Skills open standard to the Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF), operated by the Linux Foundation and co-founded by Anthropic, Block and OpenAI in December 2025, moving the standard from a single-company project to community governance. Agent Skills are folders containing a SKILL.md file that teach AI agents specific task or domain knowledge, loadable on demand. Why it matters: after donating MCP to the same foundation earlier, Anthropic is turning the agent "instruction manual" into shared infrastructure — community governance could make Skills a cross-vendor standard for how AI agents learn to do things.
