Anthropic's internal AI use, at retail prices, now exceeds its employee pay
Anthropic disclosed in its IPO filing that the value of its internal Claude use, priced at customer rates, passed its monthly employee pay excluding stock awards in April 2026. Internal use had grown more than 250-fold since January by September 2026, when Claude also wrote over 90% of its new software code. The comparison is a retail-price valuation, not cash cost, but it shows how heavily a frontier lab now relies on its own models as a production input.
