Musk admits Tesla FSD has no leading edge in China, says company is actively seeking regulatory approval

On Tesla's Q3 2026 earnings call, Musk said the company is actively working with Chinese regulators to win broader FSD approval, while conceding that fierce local competition means Tesla has not built a true leading edge in autonomous driving in China. The call also showed FSD with 1.74 million active paid users worldwide, up 67% year on year, with subscriptions at 50% of users for the first time. It matters because Musk's candid admission resets expectations for Tesla's biggest autonomy bet outside North America.
