OpenAI teams up with PerturbAI: nearly 2,000 AI agents doing research together to speed up drug discovery
Biotech firm PerturbAI announced progress on its OpenAI collaboration with Scripps Research: an AI reasoning framework where nearly 2,000 AI agents work in parallel to analyse biological experiment data, search literature and propose testable hypotheses — completing in 32 minutes a whole-brain genome map analysis that PerturbAI estimates would take humans months to a year (a company estimate, not a controlled comparison). In blind expert reviews, reports from the multi-agent system were preferred 75% of the time over single-agent reports. It matters as one of the largest real-world tests of agent swarms doing science end to end.
