OpenAI will make ChatGPT and Codex share one token allowance on Plus, Pro and Business plans starting in December
OpenAI says ChatGPT and Codex will draw from a single shared token allowance on Plus, Pro and Business plans, starting in December when the agentic features of ChatGPT Work move into the main ChatGPT experience. Today, ordinary ChatGPT chats run on a separate meter measured in message counts, while Work already shares the limits of Codex, so heavy coding does not touch chat. After the switch, each request will be priced by tokens, which matters because heavy coding use could then eat into the allowance available for ordinary chat.
