OpenAI will keep investing in AI data centers despite election results
OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar told CNBC at the Citi TMT Leadership Summit that the company will keep investing in AI data centers despite voters backing restrictions on data-center development in the midterm elections, saying it must keep building to meet customer demand and advance toward an IPO. In 41 local ballot measures across 10 states, voters supported restrictions or rejected pro-development measures in all but one. Friar said the election does not fundamentally change OpenAI's plans, and the company will go deeper into communities to build trust; OpenAI confidentially filed for an IPO in June and is considering a 2027 listing.
