AI-driven, large-scale nation-state campaign using ARTEX enables supply chain compromise
Microsoft attributes a large-scale campaign to Storm-0940, a China-state aligned actor that since September has used the open-source agentic AI framework ARTEX to automate attacks on hundreds of organizations across sectors. In the ConnectWise supply-chain compromise, the actors hit more than 2,250 tenants at up to 2,900 sign-in attempts per minute, and in some cases moved from initial targeting to privileged cloud access in under three hours. It matters because it is the clearest public evidence yet that AI agents have industrialized nation-state hacking — from days of manual work to machine-speed compromise.
