Google investigated by Finnish police over alleged illegal felling of 250,000 trees for a data center
Finnish police have opened a criminal investigation into Google's subsidiary Tuike Finland, which allegedly cleared about 330 hectares and roughly 250,000 trees near Muhos before completing a legally required environmental impact assessment. The site is part of a $15 billion Finnish AI-infrastructure investment Google announced last month, and regulators had already ordered preparatory work to stop on 6 October. The case matters because it tests whether Europe's largest AI build-outs can proceed when environmental approvals lag behind construction.
