Google staff resign in backlash over its AI contracts with military

BBC reports that at least two named Google DeepMind researchers — Sofia Liguori, who resigned this week, and Andreas Kirsch, who left earlier this month — have quit over Google's growing AI contracts with the US and Israeli militaries, with anonymous staff saying 'a lot of people have left'. Liguori told the BBC she was 'ashamed to work at Google' as the company pushes AI systems into military operations. It matters because it is the most visible employee revolt at a frontier AI lab since the contracts were signed — and a direct test of whether Google's AI Principles constrain its defence business.
