Flapping Airplanes Raises $1B to Collapse Entire AI Training Into One GPU Kernel
AI research startup Flapping Airplanes has raised a $1 billion Series A at a $6 billion post-money valuation, co-led by Index Ventures and Lux Capital, according to Bloomberg. The roughly one-year-old lab was founded by ThunderKittens creator Ben Spector together with Asher Spector and former Neuralink engineer Aidan Smith, and it bets that new low-level GPU primitives can collapse an entire training workload into a single GPU kernel. It matters because the round puts one of the richest early-stage price tags in AI on a research thesis with no public product or benchmarks, testing how far investors will fund the neolab model on team pedigree alone.
