Valued at over 10 billion yuan, former OpenAI executive founds startup targeting the $16 trillion market
Bob McGrew, OpenAI’s former head of research (joined in 2017, left in the 2024 executive exodus), has founded Arda, an AI company bringing AI into US manufacturing: its software gives manufacturing engineers an agent interface — a “Cursor for manufacturing” — to set up and reconfigure automated production lines faster. According to a CNBC exclusive interview with Arda (not an official company announcement), the company has raised $230 million at a $1.5 billion valuation, led by Altimeter Capital with Accel and Khosla Ventures participating. It marks top AI talent moving from office productivity into physical production — retooling a line is slow and expertise-heavy, exactly the kind of bottleneck AI agents are built to attack.
