AWS will be a $1T business, Jassy says. But first, it will spend big.
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy told the Q3 earnings call that AWS, now at a $184 billion annualized run rate after 39% year-on-year growth, could grow more than 40% in each of 2027 and 2028 and become a trillion-dollar revenue business within five to ten years. To get there, Amazon expects about $220 billion of cash capex in 2026, mostly for AWS, and meaningfully more in 2027, even as investors questioned the returns and shares fell about 6% after hours. Why it matters: the guidance sets the scale of the AI infrastructure bet — and the market's tolerance for it — for the world's largest cloud provider.
