Man Hires Swarm of AI Agents to Go on Epic Hacking Spree Against Major Companies
A Chinese-speaking hacker used autonomous AI agents and the open-source tool Cairn to attack more than 100 companies, including John Deere, SharkNinja and Cummins, according to a NorForge researcher cited by Reuters. The agents hit over 1,200 e-commerce sites in the US, Canada, Australia and Japan, with breaches landing after about 23 hours of attacks at roughly $50 in tokens per successful hack, and one hacker made off with sensitive credit card information. It matters because it shows a single person wielding agent swarms can scale hacking massively and cheaply, while Deere said no sensitive data was accessed and Cummins said it was investigating.
